Bee keeping class - hiving the new bees

Here is a picture of me trying to look brave and nonchalant.  How'm I doing?   I've probably said this before, but each bee makes approximately 1/12 teaspoon of honey in its lifetime.   No wonder they occasionally get a little irritable.     You've gotta respect the little darlings.    I spent my class-time sending out as many calm and loving vibes as I could muster.    Between that and my superman suit, I was invincible.

You are a lot braver than me. Suit or no suit, I don't think I would be doing that. Soooo, why are you bee hiving? Are you going to have your own?

You are my superhero!! I have a fear of bees that my daughter has as well. We have a lot of Africanized bees here that attack on occasion, so I have the utmost respect when I see bees hovering around. You amaze me!!

I'm not brave, just naive. I've never been stung, and I had a lot of faith in the class teacher, who has years of beekeeping experience. It was an interesting experience. I'd like to get a hive, and I like the idea of it, but I'm nervous about my grandchildren. My head tells me it would be fine, but my nervous self is holding back. I might look into getting a hive but housing it somewhere a little farther from home.
