Lampwork

I mentioned last week that my daughter (in law) and I took a little seminar on lampwork last weekend.   Today we went to clean and claim our beads.   We both enjoyed it very much and hope we will do it again.    And for sure I will never again complain about how much glass beads cost at art fairs  -- they are a LOT of work!   Kind of stressful, too, because everything about it was so new to us.   We had never worked with a torch, or materials that reach a bizillion degrees, and it all felt more than a little dangerous.    So here it is in pictures  -- just a taste of what was involved from beginning to end.   Maybe 4 hours of hands on instruction, plus lots of time to cure and soak,  to make two beads for each of us.   Even though it made me plenty nervous, I can't wait to do it again!

Oh, I love that. What a cool thing to do. I always wanted to blow glass, or make stuff with glass. It's so amazing to watch. Love the bracelet you made. Are the beads fragile?

That would make me nervous looking at that torch, you did a lovely bracelet!

Yours are way better than the ones I made when i first began, I'll tell you that much. Keep at it. All it takes is a bit of time and beadmaking is very rewarding with the leaps in progress that you'll make.
