Eating again?!

The squirrels started to eat one of my long-neck pumpkins leaving me no choice but to harvest them -- and so, of course, now I am baking pumpkin bread.    I took a picture of a couple of the pumpkins, but the bread disappeared too quickly to photograph!

Those are interesting. I've never seen them before. Or I have and thought they were a type of squash. Is pumpkin a type of squash???

Yes, actually, pumpkin is apparently a winter squash. I got these seeds through the mail from an heirloom-seed blogger, and I understand that they are popular in pennsylvania dutch country and often used for canned pumpkin because the neck is solid pumpkin. The few seeds are all in the little globe part. The one I've used was a little sweeter than our local pie pumpkins so I will probably save a few seeds and plant again next year.
